about
I am a Yarn maker & designer interested in the flux between the ancient craft & the modern art of handspun yarn. For me, spinning is a creative avenue, the process of making yarn a meditation, a journey, and end result. This yarn becomes a tactile treasure & is often used by customers for beautiful luxurious colourful sculptures as home decor.
When designing one-off wearables, the texture, colour & structure of handspun yarn provides inspiration for finished designs. Be it a beanie, scarflette, crochet wire jewellery, each item will be as individual as the wearer.
From fleece to fashion, making yarn is a fusion between form & function. Wool provides warmth, a natural living energy that calms our senses.. wearing wool is a tactile & textural experience for the wearer. With this impulse I take the traditional process of handspinning yarn, work creativity & instinctively with the process to sculpt new outcomes for yarn designs, transforming an ancient craft into modern design.
Handspun yarn designs are made in Limited Editions or Series. Fibre is Hand Selected locally & abroad, from Certified Organic Australian merino wool, fine kid mohair from small farms, exotic rare fibres and recycled cloth fabric all dyed & belnded by hand in my studio to create unique textural finishes. Every morsal of fibre is chosen for softnes, colour and luxe quality.
With a BA(Visual Arts) photography major in 1995, interest in textiles rekindled during early motherhood. I enjoy pushing my own creative limits when spinning each new skein, accentuating the unique, ecclectic qualities of my art yarn designs. I instruct creative spinning workshops in Australia and have been selling yarn & fiber creations on etsy.com since 2006.
